Through the CSR program, Takaful Malaysia provides complete baking facilities and equipment to Raudhatus Sakinah, a shelter and rehabilitation centre in Selangor for female Muslim teenagers in crisis situations. The baking facility gives the residents access to appropriate baking resources, develop life skills and self-sustaining, and work toward a more secure and independent future.

For a book title, it may sound too common. However, this is one book that is everything except common. I have written this book for a top civil servant who has over 35 years of experience where he shares his experiences through stories, insights, and hindsight for those aspiring young leaders who too want to reach the top positions in organizations.
As the book appears to have two names, allow me to differentiate between an author and a writer. A writer is the one who helps write the book, but the author is the one with the stories and the sharing of his views. The writer plays the role of interviewing to unleash what is inside the author and help write the book. Of course, there are authors who write their own books too. However, many people have books trapped inside them but do not translate their gems to be shared with the world.
One such individual, Datuk Ir. Amrullah has unleashed his trapped book into reality with his first book, You Too Can Excel. The book is written more in a style of self-improvement rather than a biography. This book is divided into 10 Chapters.
Chapter 1 gives a good background of Datuk Amrullah Kamal describing the events that had shaped him. His years of martial arts training through Taekwondo, Judo, and Silat classes have developed a sense of confidence and discipline that serves him well. His scouting activities developed his leadership, and survival skills as well as inculcated in him a sense of independence. His parents’ spiritual teachings have inculcated good moral principles and humility in him. His resilience and courage in his younger days certainly helped him in his later years.

Chapter 2 to Chapter 8 covers the 7 Majestic Step-Ups providing specific examples of how Datuk Amrullah had used them to excel. He rose from the rank of an executive engineer to the Director of JKR Sabah and then the Director-General Dewan Bandaraya Kota Kinabalu, and finally the President of Majlis Perbandaran Tawau, through using this approach to help achieve extraordinary results often with seemingly impossible tasks.
In many of his works, he had tapped into his foresight to develop an inspiring vision to win over people’s commitment. He had the guts to do what was right rather than what was popular. He had used his superb persuasive skill to influence his superiors to approve something that had never been approved before. For example, he managed to get a huge budget for the development of rural roads in Sabah approved as well as for 45 fresh engineers despite the staff intake freeze policy.
In everything, one can sense that this man has a hunger for success and is performance-driven. He not only executed well with massive action, but his follow-through was relentless. To him, there is no such thing as failure unless one gives up trying. He did whatever it took, often outside his decision-making powers, using his influential skills to get a difficult idea approved and implemented. He was quick to admit that he did not chalk up all the great achievements by himself. He had leveraged the motivated team that he had developed.

Perhaps his courage, tenacity, and perseverance could be best attested by his attending Tony Robbins fire-walking seminar 3 times and having climbed Mount Kinabalu to reach the summit when he was 51 years old.
Chapter 9 is an emotional chapter where he shares his greatest loss. It is heart-rendering to read about the loss of his father and yet inspiring to know of the great love of his family that motivated him to overcome the adversities he faced. The lessons of adversities are indeed useful gems, especially for the younger ones who have yet to face a great crisis in their lives.
In the final chapter, Datuk Amrullah shows us behind the tough and disciplined leader is a man who has a soft spot for orphans. His involvement in community and charity work while working full-time in organizations shows his love and care for helping others.
His definition of his purpose in life is indeed most magnanimous and selfless:
“Thepurpose of my life is to serve others and make a difference in their lives. In the process of helping others, I will improve myself, become a better and happier person as well as achieve a sense of fulfillment in my life”.
His active role in securing a wakaf land and the building, Rumah Anak Ar-Raudhoh speaks volumes of a man whose kindness has made a difference in the lives of the orphans.

The Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation, YB Tuan Chang Lih Kang, presided over the signing of a Memorandum of Collaboration (MoC) between Cradle Fund Sdn. Bhd. (Cradle), Malaysia’s premier early-stage startup agency, and Bursa Malaysia Berhad (Bursa Malaysia).
The MoC was formalized with Cradle’s Acting Group Chief Executive Officer, Norman Matthieu Vanhaecke, and Bursa Malaysia’s Director of Corporate Strategy, Aina Zahari.
This collaboration’s primary objective is to raise awareness among startups regarding funding opportunities available in Malaysia, including those offered by the equity market. Furthermore, it aims to streamline the identification process for companies with the potential to list on Bursa Malaysia.
This collaboration is an integral component of the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation’s (MOSTI) Fund Funnel program. The initiative is designed to simplify funding options and provide comprehensive support to startups throughout their funding journey, from the seed stage to the initial public offering (IPO).
The implementation of the Fund Funnel program aligns with Intervention Two outlined in the Malaysia Startup Ecosystem Roadmap (SUPER) 2021-2030, emphasizing the need to restructure the local investment ecosystem to enhance efficiency, attract high-quality investments, and facilitate funding access for startups.
Highlighting the significance of this collaboration, YB Tuan Chang remarked, “The Fund Funnel addresses the concerns raised by startups regarding the lack of information about government funding opportunities, providing clear and concise details about funding agencies and the specific stages at which they offer financial support.”
He continued, “As we introduce the Fund Funnel program, Malaysia embarks on a transformative journey to fulfil the aspirations outlined in the Malaysia Startup Ecosystem Roadmap. The Fund Funnel program signifies the government’s commitment to nurturing startups by providing them with vital funding access at every stage of their journey, in line with Malaysia MADANI’s aspiration to build an innovative and high-tech nation.”
Norman Matthieu Vanhaecke, Acting Group Chief Executive Officer of Cradle, expressed that the collaboration between Cradle and Bursa Malaysia demonstrates a continual commitment to engage with ecosystem players, promoting transparency in Bursa Malaysia’s listing requirements.
He added, “Through this collaboration, we hope to empower startups to develop comprehensive strategies, ultimately paving the way for successful listings on the exchange while bridging critical funding gaps within the ecosystem. Under this partnership, Cradle will provide market intelligence on the local startup ecosystem to assist Bursa Malaysia in identifying potential listing candidates. With 20 years of experience in the startup ecosystem, Cradle has engaged with companies across all stages of development and funding, supporting over 1,000 Malaysian technology-based firms and achieving the highest commercialization rate among funding agencies in Malaysia.
Bursa Malaysia will analyse the data shared by Cradle and collaborate with them to organize programs that focus on funding access. Additionally, Bursa Malaysia will support Cradle in knowledge sharing and help startups gain a better understanding of how the equity market can contribute to their growth. This objective is crucial to assist businesses in planning their future growth and identifying the necessary funding to support their journey from the early stages to eventually becoming a publicly listed company.
Tan Sri Abdul Wahid Omar, Chairman of Bursa Malaysia, stated, “This collaboration reflects the Exchange’s intent to assist Cradle in building a thriving startup ecosystem by addressing a common pain point faced by local startups, namely, access to funding opportunities. This initiative, known as the “Di Hatiku Student Food Aid Program”, aims to provide daily nutritious meals to 1,000 Asnaf students in ten (10) primary schools around Kuala Lumpur and Selangor. The CSR program aligns with Takaful Malaysia’s sustainability agenda, focusing on nation-building and improving the health, physical condition, and nutrition of underprivileged students.
Nor Azman Zainal, Group Chief Executive Officer of Takaful Malaysia, stated, “We initiated the food aid program to fulfil our responsibility as an Islamic financial institution in distributing Zakat to eligible Asnaf (tithe) recipients. We aim to create sustainable value in the local community by providing daily nutritious meals and improving the nutrition intake of underprivileged students. Our responsibility and commitment are to assist the Government in addressing malnutrition by empowering these children with healthy meals. This is also in line with the spirit of takaful, which emphasizes helping one another, especially those in need.”

Takaful Malaysia’s Di Hatiku Student Food Aid Program was launched in July 2023. Through this program, Takaful Malaysia supplies daily set meals to eligible Asnaf students from low-income families at their respective schools. The program is scheduled to run until February 2024, covering the school academic year 2023/2024.
“Our goal is to play our part and be responsible corporate citizens by providing nutritious food to empower the younger generation. Recognizing the importance of Asnaf students from low-income families having access to balanced meals at school, we decided to initiate this effort and extend a helping hand. Consequently, we are collaborating closely with the MoE, selected school administrators, and canteen operators to manage and implement the food aid program effectively,” said Zainal.
Each selected Asnaf student receives a complete lunchbox set, and the daily menu is based on the food pyramid for children, including vegetables, fruits, and protein sources to meet the needs of the Asnaf students. Additionally, water bottles are also provided to encourage students to stay hydrated.
“The Di Hatiku Student Food Aid Program aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals, aiming to eradicate malnutrition and ensure regular access to nutritious and sufficient food, particularly for Asnaf and underprivileged children, to support their normal growth and development and promoting a healthy life. Seeing the children’s smiles as they enjoy their meals is the most rewarding aspect of this program. We are delighted that the food aid program has received a positive and overwhelming response and hope it will continue to benefit the Asnaf students,” Zainal concluded.

Stepping into the vibrant and spacious dining area, the enticing aroma of freshly prepared dishes enveloped the air. The buffet was a gastronomic paradise, boasting an impressive selection of local Malaysian delicacies and international favourites. I savoured each bite, exploring new flavours and delighting in the culinary wonders that awaited me.

Dining at Gordon Ramsay Bar & Grill, the flagship restaurant of the multi-Michelin starred chef in Malaysia, was undoubtedly a highlight of my stay. As a food enthusiast and a Gordon Ramsay fan, I held high expectations, which were not only met but exceeded in every aspect.
Upon entering the restaurant, we were greeted by an elegant and inviting ambiance. While perusing the menu, it was evident that we were in for a culinary adventure of a lifetime. The options were plenty, and after much consideration, we ordered a variety of starters including Arnold Bennett Twice-baked Soufflé, Chicken & Duck Liver Parfait, Aged Beef Tartare, Seared Scallops, and Transmontanus Caviar. For the main course, we opted for a whole Boston Lobster Thermidor, Classic Beef Wellington, Wagyu Rib Eye, and A5 Japanese IGA Sirloin. The Apple Tarte Tatin was our choice for dessert.
Each dish that arrived at our table was a masterpiece, meticulously crafted with a burst of flavours that danced on our taste buds. From perfectly seared steaks to delectable seafood creations, every bite was a symphony of taste that left us in awe of Chef Ramsay’s culinary brilliance.
Gordon Ramsay’s restaurant also attracted notable individuals from afar. Seated across from us was Professor Muhammad Yunus, the renowned founder of Grameen Bank and a Nobel Peace Prize Winner. He had come with his family to dine at the restaurant and was staying at the hotel as he was scheduled to deliver a talk on Entrepreneurship For A Better World at Sunway University, conveniently located across from the hotel.

The service at Gordon Ramsay was exceptional, with attentive staff ensuring that every aspect of our dining experience was flawless. They shared insights into the dishes and made recommendations, helping us make the right choices.
The next day, I decided to indulge by the poolside just outside Sunset Terrace. Lounging by the sparkling pool, sipping refreshing drinks, and savouring delectable bites made for a perfect unwinding experience. The atmosphere was ideal for relaxation, and as I sat basking in the sun by the pool, the hypnotic sound of the waterfall provided a constant soothing backdrop.
